I like to consider myself a "quote queen" and I go back and forth between Brene Brown and Maya Angelou. One of my favorite quotes from Maya Angelou says "I don't trust people who don't love themselves and tell me, 'I love you'. There's an African saying, which is 'Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt'. So true. What I love about my gifts is being able to instruct others on lessons learned in my own life and guide them to finding their own lessons. That's my favorite part of this journey. And as far as coaching and creative modalities and why they're important for human growth and development, I think we so often try to fit a cookie cutter approach to learning and growth. And we each have a different way to incorporate the things that we learn. And so through creativity and different types of processing, we're able to find what works for us and open our eyes to ways that maybe we thought wouldn't work for us, but actually do. So for me, the holistic approach is the best approach.
Niche: I’m passionate about leadership. I enjoy discussions about inner dialogue, or self-talk, especially when things get tough. In my experience working with interpreting practitioners for over 30 years, the greatest obstacles to success occur with the intensity and volume of our ‘inner committee’. I use a creative approach to identifying inner committee members as well as replacing them, sending them on hiatus, or just plain firing them! You will leave leadership coaching sessions empowered with tools to lead your own path and transfer those same skills to work and family relationships. Come find out what my inner committee looks like, I’ll go first!
I am a life-long learner and have been through many of life's ups and downs in my personal and professional life. I've experienced divorce, infertility, cancer, childhood abuse, moving cross country, remarriage, and 3 cesarean sections (I'm a warrior!) The bulk of my professional career has been as a nationally certified sign language interpreter, mentor and instructor. The privilege of working between Deaf and hearing consumers has given me unique insights into culture, communication, social justice, accessibility, and an increased love for all people. I spent most of those years also wanting to complete a bachelor's degree but raising a family and working meant that it took longer than expected to fulfill that dream. I went back to school full-time in 2012 and haven't stopped since. I now have my Ed.D. in Leadership and Innovation through Arizona State University. I remember every moment of walking across that stage and accepting my degree - it wasn't the paper...it was the dream! I proved to myself and family that it is never too late to pursue and manifest your dreams.
In February of 2022 I left the corporate world as a leadership development manager to focus my career and love on the Fusion You and Family Fusion programs. I now look forward to waking up to work and there is no better end to my work days than seeing people's lives transform. I am passionate about ‘soft skills’, encouraging positive self-talk, inner confidence, and making connections with others, often and early.
My husband, Eric, and I have birthed and raised 3 humans who are each pursuing their dreams and growth. We love spending time with our family and friends. We moved back to Arizona in March 2023 to enjoy the warmth and look forward to some balmy days on a beach in the near future! I am thrilled to be a part of House of Clay and proud to claim my status as Clay's oldest daughter and only sister to the incredible Cami Covey-Doucet.
